After you’ve had a wisdom tooth removal service, you need to be careful so that your tooth and gums can properly get better. If you’re hasty, you could reopen the wound or do something that would lead to infection, and you’ll need to visit with the doctor again for further processes. Here are some instructions and tips you can follow to make your healing that much better:
Plan to rest immediately after your operation. Prevent all strenuous forms of activities, and don’t do anything that could reopen the area where the wisdom tooth was.
Don’t drink any beverages besides water for at least a day, and don’t drink from a straw for a week. (Sucking can pull out blood from the wound.)
This may be the only time we say this, but don’t brush your teeth or floss for at least 24 hours after your procedure. Avoid anything that may re-open the stitches.
Use an ice pack and over-the-counter medications to relieve pain as you were instructed by our office during your surgery.
